1 to 1 therapy

Your story wants to be told and I want to hear it.

1 to 1 therapy with Adventure in Minds is a supportive space where you’re listened to without judgement or pressure to be anything other than who you are.

We work alongside you, helping you make sense of what you’re carrying – emotionally, mentally and personally – supporting you as we go.

How we work

We offer therapy using hypnotherapy tools, alongside talking and reflection.

Hypnotherapy helps by working around the mental barriers we often meet when we try to change through willpower or logic alone. When we’re in a state of focused attention, we connect more directly with the subconscious parts of the mind, where habits, emotional responses, protective patterns and learned beliefs live.

By approaching change from here, shifts can feel gentler, deeper and sometimes quicker because we’re not fighting against the conscious mind’s defences.

Rather than analysing or overthinking, hypnotherapy allows us to explore what’s happening beneath the surface and introduce new ways of responding that feel more natural and aligned for you. Hypnotherapy helps you to connect with and rediscover your internal resources, allowing you to bring them to the surface to support your daily challenges.

Many people find that hypnotherapy can be deeply calming and regulating. The focused state can reduce overwhelm, quiet mental noise and create a sense of safety and steadiness.

That said, hypnotherapy isn’t about forcing change or “fixing” you. It’s about creating the right conditions for flexibility, self-compassion and healthy change if that’s what you’re searching for, for example combatting spiralling, upsetting thoughts.

Sessions may include:

  • Talking things through

  • Moments of stillness or silence

  • Gentle use of hypnotherapy tools to support reflections on your subconscious

You’re in control. You can pick from:

  • Online sessions

  • Outdoor sessions in Cornwall

  • Walk and talk sessions

As always, we move at your pace, in a way that feels right for you. These sessions are part of your journey to reconnection, confidence and happiness. Allow your positive energy transfer to meet your family system and watch it flourish.

What is hypnotherapy?

Hypnotherapy is a state of focused attention on your inner world. We gently guide you into this state but it’s something you naturally already do each day!

You might recognise it when:

  • You’re completely absorbed in a book

  • You’ve driven somewhere and don’t remember every turn you took or decision you made on the journey

  • You’re watching a film or series and become immersed

Any time you’re using your imagination or become deeply absorbed, you’re accessing this state.

Unlike some forms of meditation that focus on emptying the mind, hypnotherapy is about focusing your attention on specific thoughts, images or ideas. This allows us to explore patterns, responses and beliefs in a gentle and supported way.

You are always awake and in control. Hypnotherapy is not a mind control and nothing like what you see on TV. Hypnotherapists can’t make you do or say anything you don’t want to do. We don’t put ideas into your mind either, we just help you access what’s already there.

Nothing we can say can change your core beliefs, values or sense of self.

Consent is also essential. We will always ask for clear, explicit consent before using hypnotherapy tools even if we’ve worked together for years. Nothing happens without your full awareness and agreement.

For neurocomplex people, traditional relaxation scripts don’t always work and that’s okay. Hypnotherapy isn’t just about breathing exercises or “switching off”. There are many different ways to enter a focused, therapeutic state and we’ll find what works best for you.

There’s no right or wrong way to experience hypnotherapy. We work at your pace, in your way.

Who do we help?

Individual therapy is particularly supportive for:

Adults within neurocomplex family units, who are holding family life together while navigating systems that don’t see your child’s full picture.

Your whole family may experience different needs and managing them all in one boiling pot is incredibly hard!

Our sessions offer humour, hopefulness, lived experience and honesty, to help you follow the path to joy.

If you feel misunderstood, burnt out and ready to release, this space is for you.

What to expect

Sessions are always one hour long and while there’s a gentle structure, we can be guided by how you feel on the day.

If you’d like, we might agree on something small to take into everyday life, for example a gentle real-world practice of something we’ve been working on. This “homework” is always optional and designed to support your journey, not be overwhelming.

Our space is judgement-free and intentionally neurocomplex-friendly.

That means:

  • You don’t need a diagnosis

  • You can have your camera on or off

  • Silence is welcome

  • Movement is welcome – we can even go for a walk together for some gentle exercise

  • You can ask questions at any point

  • We build a safe environment together

A session might look like:

01

10 minutes: settling in

We begin by helping you feel comfortable in the space. This might include checking in with your energy levels or talking briefly about how your day or week has been.

02

40 minutes: working together

This is the main part of the session, where we focus on whatever feels most important to you. That might involve exploring a particular issue or pattern in more depth, reflection or sitting with feelings and using therapeutic exercises that feel helpful, such as hypnotherapy tools, CBT-informed work, imagination or creative approaches.

03

10 minutes: closing and looking ahead

We gently draw the session to a close by reflecting on what’s come up, noticing any shifts, insights or themes and thinking about what might feel helpful before our next session.

Not every session may look this way. We'll do whatever works for you.

Before starting, we offer a 30-minute discovery call which gives us a chance to talk through what you’re looking for, whether we can support you and whether we're the right therapist for you.

If you’re considering therapy and aren’t sure if it’s for you, reach out to start a conversation about how it works and we can go from there.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

01

What if I struggle to talk?

That’s completely fine, you don’t have to talk. We can explore whatever form of expression feels most natural for you, possibly writing, drawing, moving, sound or silence.

02

Do I have to have a diagnosis?

No, you don’t. You’re always welcome here, whether you have a formal diagnosis, are self-diagnosed, questioning or simply feel that the way your mind and body works doesn’t fit neatly into the world around you.

03

What if therapy hasn’t worked for me before?

That’s okay and you’re not alone. Many people come to us feeling cautious because therapy hasn’t helped in the past, or has even left them feeling more misunderstood.

We’ll gently explore:

  • What didn’t work for you before

  • What felt missing, uncomfortable or unhelpful

  • What therapy would need to look like to feel supportive this time

  • What “working” actually means for you

Therapy isn’t something done to you, it’s something we shape together.

04

What if I have trauma?

If you’ve experienced trauma, we can work together to understand what you’ve been through and how it’s affecting you now. We’ll move at your pace, with care and a strong focus on safety, consent and choice.

Our experience lies in sexual and relationship difficulties, identity transitions, relationship therapy and trauma-informed, neurocomplex-aware approaches.

We’ll be honest with you about what we can support. If at any point we think you’d benefit from working with a specialist, we can discuss that together. Referrals are always a collaborative decision.

You don’t have to process trauma alone.

05

Will our sessions be confidential?

Yes, our work is confidential.

There are some legal and ethical exceptions to confidentiality, relating to situations where there is a serious risk of harm to you or someone else or where we have a legal duty to disclose information.

At the start of our time together, we’ll go through a clear agreement that explains how confidentiality works to help you feel safe and informed from the outset.

06

How much does 1 to 1 therapy cost?

Our sessions are £100 per hour. Please get in touch if affordability is a barrier – money shouldn’t be another burden to carry.
